X-SPEED AUSTRALIA CYCLING CLUB
CODE OF CONDUCT

All members, whether athlete, parent, coach, spectator or committee member of the X-Speed Australia Cycling Club are reminded of the expectation to uphold the Club’s Code of Conduct as detailed below.

X-Speed Australia Cycling Club seek to provide a safe, fair and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our club and in our sport. To achieve this, we require certain standards of behaviour by riders/athletes, coaches, officials, committee members, parents/guardians (of child participants) and spectators. Our codes of behaviour are underpinned by the following core values:

  • To act within the rules and spirit of our sport.
  • To display respect and courtesy towards everyone involved in our sport and prevent discrimination and harassment.
  • To prioritise the safety and well-being of children and young people involved in our sport.
  • To encourage and support opportunities for participation in all aspects of our sport.

EXPECTED CONDUCT

All members, whether athlete, parent, coach, spectator or committee member of the X-Speed Australia Cycling Club are reminded of the expectation to uphold the Club’s Code of Conduct as detailed below.

X-Speed Australia Cycling Club seek to provide a safe, fair and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our club and in our sport. To achieve this, we require certain standards of behaviour by riders/athletes, coaches, officials, committee members, parents/guardians (of child participants) and spectators. Our codes of behaviour are underpinned by the following core values:

RIDERS

  • Cooperate with and respect your coach, club volunteers, team-mates and opponents. Without them there
    would be no club and no competition.
  • Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  • Be welcoming and inclusive to new and young participants
  • Compete by the rules.
  • Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your coach approach the official during a break or after the competition.
  • Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other riders, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport.
  • Work equally hard for yourself and/or your club. Your club’s performance will benefit, so will you.
  • Be a good sport. Applaud good performances whether they are made by you, X-Speed riders or fellow competitors.
  • Treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor.

PARENTS

  • Remember that children participate in cycling for their enjoyment. Encourage children to participate, do not force them.
  • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing. This assists the child in +
  • setting realistic goals related to his or her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
  • Teach children that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each event is accepted without undue disappointment.
  • Encourage children always to participate according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • Never ridicule or raise your voice at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • Respect the coaches and officials and refrain from questioning their decisions or from addressing them in a loud, disrespectful, or abusive manner. Raise any concerns with club officials in private.
  • Show appreciation for all volunteers. Without them, your child could not participate.
  • Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances by all participants.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

COACH AND OFFICIALS

RESPECT

  • Be fair, considerate and honest with participants and athletes.
  • Display control, respect, dignity, professionalism and courtesy to all involved in all forms of cycling.
  • Respect the talent, development stage and goals of participants and athletes.

INCLUSIVENESS

  • Promote an environment that is free of any discriminatory practices. Within the context of the activity, treat everyone equally regardless of gender, race, (including colour, nationality and national or ethnic origin), sexuality, religion, political belief or activity, age, marital or relationship status, pregnancy, impairment or disability.
  • Treat all participants and athletes as individuals who are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.

ENCOURAGEMENT

  • Ensure the participant’s/ athlete’s time with you is a positive and rewarding experience.
  • Help each participant/ athlete reach their full potential.
  • Encourage your participants/athletes to demonstrate control, respect, dignity, professionalism and courtesy to those involved in all disciplines of cycling.

BEHAVIOUR

  • Commit to providing a quality service to your participants/ athletes.
  • Be honest and do not allow your qualifications to be misrepresented.
  • Be professional and accept responsibility for your actions
  • Display high standards in your language, manner, punctuality, preparation and presentation.
  • Do not use your AusCycling accreditation or affiliation to seek any benefit or influence that may be perceived to be immoral, improper or unfair.
  • Do not engage in any form of harassment (including but not limited to sexual or racial harassment) or personal abuse (including but not limited to verbal, physical and emotional abuse) towards participants, athletes, officials and other stakeholders.
  • Be alert to any forms of abuse between your participants/ athletes and/or directed towards your participants/ athletes.
  • Any physical contact with participants/ athletes shall be appropriate to the situation and necessary for the further development of the participant’s/ athlete’s skill.
  • Do not initiate inappropriate intimacy or a relationship with a participant/ athlete and discourage any attempt by a participant/ athlete to initiate inappropriate intimacy or a relationship with you.
  • Avoid unaccompanied and unobserved one-on-one activity with athletes under the age of 18 years.

The Club reserves the right to withdraw a person’s membership if they should fail to comply with this code.
